Railway Club

Railway Club

Blandford Forum Railway Club continue to work on the scale model of Blandford railway station which is on permanent display in the museum.

Featured in the February 2011 edition of Railway Modeller this is an ongoing project.

The model is operated with authentic locomotives and rolling stock loaned by members of the club or received as gifts from the public and dating from nationalisation in 1948 to the closure of the line in 1966.

These include passenger trains such as the famous 'Pines Express' hauled by locomotives such as BR 9F No. 92220 'Evening Star' and Bulleid 'West Country' Pacifics such as No.34107 'Blandford Forum' and No. 34043 'Coombe Martin'.

There are a variety of freight trains in and out of the station bringing in coal for the four coal yards in and around the station, agricultural goods for Blandford & Webb LTD who had both a corn store and a feed store in the goods yard and a variety of other goods for the town and the nearby military camp.

The Club

The club has a varied programme of activities and presentations throughout the year, and is also very involved in supporting the Museum Trust's other projects where the skills of the railway club members are of great benefit. The club currently meets at the Blandford Scout Hut at Eagle House Gardens.
