7 members of the group dug 4 test pits at Tarrant Launceston over a weekend. We avoided the rain and had a successful couple of days. In test pit 1 Dave found the ditch identified on the geophysics which is about 1m deep, steep sided and with a flat bottom. Finds appear to be of Early Neolithic date but also some more Bronze Age flints. In pit 2 John, Bryan and Natalie revealed a feature, although we didn’t find the edges, but there were some Early Neolithic flints. Further excavation is needed to explore the extent of the feature. Rex, Gisela and Gerald excavated test pits 3 and 4, although no features were found, there was worked and burnt flint and some pottery sherds.
