Blandford Museum Sustainability Forum. Cycle of Social, Environment and EconomyThe Museum Sustainability Forum (previously called the Environmental Group) was set up in early 2023 to work on events and projects with an environmental focus such as sustainability fairs, tree planting, rubbish collection, and working to make Blandford a “Plastic Free” town. The Group will also arrange craft and children’s events, lectures and discussions on environmental topics.

The group itself will be deciding their remit and interests, so these will develop with time, but here are some of the Environmental projects and initiatives that the Museum has been involved in over recent months.

Climate Action Now!

Climate Action Now! is an initiative developed by Blandford Museum in partnership with charities in Blandford. We all see climate change as the biggest challenge confronting the world in the years to come.

CAN 2023 will host many events on climate change, including:

☆   Children’s Workshops

☆   School events

☆   Lectures

☆   Museum collections workshops and exhibition work

☆   Woodland events for families

☆   Special events for seniors

We will also be creating a new, permanent exhibition at the Blandford Town Museum.

Climate Action Now! is supported by a grant awarded by South West Museum Development, with thanks to funding from Arts Council England.

Environmental Fairs

Two Environmental Fairs were held in Blandford in Summer 2022, featuring Children’s Activities, Food and Drink, Sustainable Products, and exhibits by Local Environmental Charities.

Let’s Talk Green: Craft, nature, coffee and cake

Izzy Ellis was a volunteer at the museum when she was a student at Blandford School, and she is now studying for a BSc in Physical Geography at the University of Sussex. As part of a special project for the University of Uppsala, Izzy rang a series of nature-inspired craft workshops at the Museum and in Angus Wood.

Clean Up Blandford

The Clean Up Blandford Campaign organises regular litter picks around the town.
