Our current MEG (Museum Events Group) team has been active for about 5 years, organising events to raise the money that the Museum needs to carry out our work. In many ways we are victims of our own success! Our events have gone from strength to strength, and we really need more helpers if we are going to continue, and hopefully expand, our events programme.
So, we are looking for new members to join MEG, and/or to help run various events. We want to form a new Events Task Force (ETF) that we can draw on for additional help, where people can dip in and help when it is convenient, but are not tied to regular duties. Could you offer a few dates to help out on occasions?
Currently we have two types of events:
Regular events (usually monthly): In the warmer months, Coffee Mornings & Social Suppers in the Victorian Garden; during colder months, Friday evening Talks in the Parish Rooms.
One-Off events throughout the year: In the past these have including taking part in the Yuletide Festival, the local Summer Fair, and Fundraising Quiz, but we would like to organise more in the future.
We need people with skills in the following areas to help with both regular events and one-off events:
Planning Events: helping to plan talks/speakers, organise new events ideas, help with fundraising and programming.
Practical & Physical Support: helping to set up (and take down) tents, chairs and tables, carrying trays, containers etc. to and from kitchen or shed, packing up and clearing away, washing up, tidying and wiping down.
Cooking: preparing dishes for our themed “Last Friday” Suppers, cakes and bakes for Coffee Mornings, and catering for other one-off events.
Serving food and drinks and staffing other stalls at promotional or fundraising events
Handling Money: taking cash or card payments.
Looking after our storage areas: helping to ensure that the shed, cupboards and kitchen are kept in good order so that we can easily get to the things we need.
