The garden is coming to life now especially in the pond area so that’s the Feature of the Month. There’s a lovely display of snowdrops underneath the Acer griseum (paperbark maple) and the frogs have been busy leaving a bounty of frogspawn.

The two climate-resilient beds have been cleared and are now being covered by a generous layer of horse manure. This is to make sure there’s sufficient nutrient and organic matter to support the new planting. To read more about the climate resilient project see Garden News from September 2022 and November 2022.

Most waste plant matter goes into the compost heap and it’s boosted by used rabbit bedding from a neighbour. Some woody matter is shredded and used by members and the residue goes to the dump to be composted by the Council. This doesn’t make enough compost for all our needs so some has to be bought in each year.

The roses and fruit trees have been pruned and given a spadeful of manure. A small bonfire of the all-natural Christmas decorations provided a little ash to spread about too.
