The Museum’s Civic Group has recently been working with the Blandford+ Steering Group on the modification to the area’s Neighbourhood Plan by identifying over 60 properties worthy of designation as unlisted heritage assets.
Only recently did Dorset Council begin work on establishing a Local List for the county, but the countywide project coincided with the work on our own Neighbourhood Plan, and it was agreed to submit nominations which have now been included.
Many buildings in the town centre (some would argue too many!) were listed by Historic England in October 1950 and September 1973 for their architectural interest, but few if any had been built after the Georgian period. Our local list now includes more recent development and sites of social and historical interest.
